Winter Park is especially wonderful to visit with kids during the winter holidays. The first weekend of December is packed with two major events. Central Park will be transformed into a winter wonderland on Friday for "Winter on the Avenue," which will have snow slides, s'mores, and strolling carolers. The Christmas tree and the menorah are lit, and everyone crowds around to watch. Ye Olde Hometown Christmas Parade music will flood the streets the following day. The parade has been going strong for over seventy years, and it has floats, marching bands, fire engines, and Santa himself. In comparison to the North Pole, December highs in Winter Park typically reach the mid-70s.
