A few weeks into Season 12, the pecking order in Diablo IV feels a lot clearer. If you've been grinding the top end, you've probably already seen which builds are doing the heavy lifting, especially once the gear starts coming together with the right Diablo 4 Items. Paladin is the easy example. The Shield of Retribution Thorns setup is carrying hard in serious content, and not just because it's safe. It turns Blessed Shield into a real damage tool, with thorns procs firing over and over on each throw. Before those brutal Torment Seven Blood Soak bosses got toned down, this was one of the few setups that could actually stand there and live through the mess. If you like a build that forgives mistakes, this one's tough to beat.

Barbarian and Sorcerer still feel unfair

Barbarian players are in a great spot again. Hammer of the Ancients hits like a truck, and once you add Melted Heart of Celig, the whole build starts feeling a bit silly. You're hard to kill, your fury problems calm down, and big packs just vanish with Aspect of Ancestral Force doing its thing. A lot of players are aiming to keep Call of the Ancients around that sweet 9.5-second mark, because it smooths out the whole loop. Sorcerer, meanwhile, is still the class people pick when they want to fly through content. Crackling Energy remains the speed-farm favourite. Build around Ball Lightning, stack the energy effects, and the screen clears itself while you blink from one fight to the next.

The heavy hitters in the middle of the pack

Spiritborn has one of the nastiest damage setups right now with Payback Thorns. It's not the fastest thing you'll ever play, and yeah, sometimes it feels a little clunky moving between packs. But when the damage lands, it lands. Scaling max resource gives it a huge push, and once survivability pieces fall into place, the build gets very hard to knock over. Necromancer goes the other way. The speed-farm Bone Spirit version is all about momentum. Zero-second cooldown loops are very real if your setup is clean, and that changes the whole pace of a run. Pull a room together, pop Bone Spirit, move on. It's one of the few builds this season that feels almost too quick for its own good.

Druid and Rogue have different jobs right now

Druid is still leaning on Pulverize, and honestly, that makes sense. It's direct, easy to pilot, and it scales in a way that feels reliable instead of flashy. The roaming Rotting Lightbringer pools help set up overpowers without much fuss, which is a big part of why the build keeps showing up in endgame discussions. Rogue is a stranger case. Heartseeker has issues, and plenty of players have stopped pretending otherwise. Death Trap is the safer answer for Torment 4 farming. Get enough energy regen on your gear and the rotation starts to feel almost endless. It's less glamorous than some older Rogue metas, but it works, and that matters more right now.

Where the meta stands now

If you're choosing what to build today, the pattern is pretty simple. Paladin and Barbarian are leading for players who want power without a ton of hassle. Sorcerer and Necromancer own the faster farming lanes. Druid stays dependable, and Rogue is making do until its stronger options settle down.
